Filippo Ganna set a new benchmark Hour Record on the track last week with a unique 3D-printed scandium Pinarello bike, but apparently, his Kask Bambino Pro Evo aero TT helmet was also custom-shaped for optimal fit & aerodynamics. On the outside Ganna’s TT helmet got custom Italian tricolore graphics and Kask’s latest & most advanced aero visor, but inside the team says that Kask shaped the inside of the helmet specifically for Italy’s national time trial champion…
Kask Bambino Pro Evo aero TT helmet
This latest evolution of Kask’s Bambino TT helmet features a longer dropped tail than the previous version, offering improved aerodynamics for riders able to maintain their low aero tuck – the 500€ Kask Bambino Pro Evo. Plus, a more aerodynamically-optimized aero visor.
And as the Italian national TT champion setting out to set the Hour Record – which he did with a definitive 56.792km distance bringing all records back in line on the 3D-printed scandium Pinarello Bolide F HR 3D – Kask painted up a custom lid for Filippo Ganna.
Custom-fit TT helmet for Filippo Ganna
Luca Oggiano – the “Principal aerodynamicist” for Ganna’s INEOS Grenadiers team and the CEO of aerodynamic design simulation and analysis startup NablaFlow – described custom shaping the helmet for Filippo Ganna both inside & out. The outside of this latest Bambino Pro Evo was developed with the team, and had its slippery outer shape developed specifically for maximum aerodynamic efficiency in Ganna’s aero tuck position. But the custom helmet fitting process went even further, by 3D-scanning Filippo Ganna’s head so that Kask could custom shape the inside of the helmet to perfectly fit Ganna’s head. Oggiano describes it as a first-ever use of such fitting technology to benefit a rider like this.
Newest Aero Pro Visor
The latest addition to the aero Kask Bambino Pro Evo TT helmet is a more shaped Aero Pro Visor that adds a finned polycarbonate frame to the standard optical visor to further smooth airflow over the rider’s cheeks and the side of the helmet. In line with their incremental gains philosophy, INEOS worked with Kask on the optimization of the visor since last January, from CFD to the wind tunnel, and ultimately to race testing this season.
The new visor also shares the same outer shape and magnetic attachment, meaning that it is also backward compatible with the shorter Bambino Pro & Bambino Pro Evo, plus the longer Mistral & Mistral LW aero time trial helmets.
