The German firm Quantron offers conversions of diesel vehicles to battery and hydrogen-electric drives as well its own zero-emission vehicles. At this September’s IAA Transportation World trade show in Hanover, the company presented a number of zero-emission commercial vehicles based on two self-developed hydrogen and battery-electric platforms.

The Quantron QHM BEV is the company’s battery-electric heavy-duty truck platform. It is available as the QHM BEV 44-400 tractor unit, as well as the QHM BEV 27-400 chassis, which comes in a large number of variants. Battery pack capacities of up to 392 kWh are available, providing an operating range of up to 350 km. DC fast charging is supported at rates up to 350 kW. The Quantron QHM BEV is already available for order.

The Quantron QHM FCEV is a heavy-duty truck that Quantron developed in partnership with Ballard Power Systems. It features Ballard’s newly developed FCmove-XD 120 kW fuel cell, and the integrated eGen Power 130D E-axle from Allison Transmission.

As a tractor unit for heavy long-distance transport, the QHM FCEV 44-1000 offers an operating range of around 700 km. All components, including the 54 kg hydrogen tank, are integrated within the frame structure. It supports the ISO directive for tractor-trailer combinations to ensure interchangeability of semitrailers and tractor units. It’s available for immediate order, with delivery in Q2 2023.

The Quantron QHM FCEV 60-2000 and QHM FCEV 44-2000 feature a tank that’s integrated into the chassis and positioned behind the cab, with capacities of up to 116 kg. This will enable a range of up to 1,500 km. The QHM FCEV 27-1000 is a road train version for long-distance heavy-load transport.

For body manufacturers, Quantron’s vehicles are designed to offer a high degree of standardization and body-friendliness. The chassis will be familiar to body manufacturers throughout Europe, and many different types of bodies can be installed.

Also on display at the show were the Quantron QLI FCEV, a light truck (4.2 to 7.2 tons) equipped with a Ballard Power fuel cell drive, that has an operating range of up to 500 km; the battery-electric Quantron QLI BEV (3.5 to 7.2 tons), which can accommodate payloads of up to 1,000 kg; and the Quantron CIZARIS 12 EV, an electric bus with a range of up to 370 km (according to SORT 2).
