Bosch has spent years touting its Smart System, a motor/battery/display array that seeks to consolidate and simplify power setups for ebike riders. Now, Trek’s ultra-high-end Rail lineup onboards the signature tech.

The newest Rail 9.8 and 9.9 offerings will revolve around Smart System power. It will crank up to 85Nm of assistance for steep climbs, and intelligent Tour+ and eMTB modes adjust power based on the rider’s terrain and input (in a bid for a natural pedal feel).

Rail riders, or anyone with the Smart System, can pair it with Bosch’s eBike Flow app. It lets riders customize their assistance, track various ride metrics, map and navigate routes, download updates via Bluetooth, and access service recommendations.

To keep track of stats on the fly, Rail 9.8 and 9.9 riders get Bosch’s System Controller. It sits flush on the top tube to deliver key metrics at a glance, and pairs with the compact Mini Remote to swap modes while riding.

Beyond the Bosch inclusion, Trek equips every Rail with a Removable Integrated Battery (RIB). RIB aims at easy, toolless battery removal from the down tube for faster charges and safer storage during travel. And every Rail below the 9.8 and 9.9 levels will use an LED remote that displays battery life and current assistance mode, and facilitates Bluetooth updates via Bosch eBike Flow.

Every Rail will roll on 29-inch wheels, and boast the same huge 150mm/160mm travel as its predecessor. Rail 9.8 starts at $8,700 MSRP; Rail 9.9 fetches $12,250 minimum. Each bike is available via order now at Trek retailers.
