Are saddle bags cool again? Certainly, if any bikepacking is involved. But even on those smaller adventures, you need a place to stash your tools and snacks. To give you some extra storage space, PNW Components has just introduced a new saddle bag updated for modern times.
While the idea of a saddle bag certainly isn’t new, the PNW Satellite bag adds an interesting feature with a “dropper-friendly” design. If you strap a bag to your dropper post, you run the risk of excessive wear, either from the strap rubbing on the stanchion, or jamming up into the seal on full-drop.
PNW seems to have solved that issue with a removable bungee anchor strap. The strap is small and flexible enough that is should push out of the way if you drop the post too far. But it’s also removable if you’d rather have nothing touching the stancion. The saddle rail attachment is the typical velcro affair, and the bag itself is made from DWR-coated tri-layer sailcloth–that’s also made from 100% recycled polyester. The lightweight construction yields a small saddle bag that weighs in at 55g.
But the bag is still big enough to carry the essentials.
Offered in Dark Matter Black or Star Dust Khaki, the bags are priced at $39 each and available now.
