Getting a Foot in at the HANDZ Bicycles Booth at Philly Bike Expo

[ad_1]

The Philly Bike Expo yielded a lot of bike-nerdy stuff to get through while wandering the show. For instance, I had a nice conversation with Ryan Burnham of Handz Bicycles. Ryan is the owner and chief frame builder at Handz Bicycles out of New Hampshire.

Ryan brings 15+ years of experience (including a few years at legendary Independent Fabrication) to Handz Bicycles, which is a relatively new brand. I hung out for a short time and snapped some pictures of two of his creations that were in his booth. But the bike I thought was really cool, was the Smooth Handz All-road bike.

Adjustable Paragon rear dropout

Handz Bicycles designed the single-speed Smooth Handz allroad bike around the adjustable Paragon dropout. The removable inserts allow for the option to run a rear derailleur or not, 160mm or 140mm flat mount, as well as various axle configurations.

Ryan says that this single-speed was made for the New Hampshire rods during the Winter and Spring seasons with its full Velo Orange fenders. The Smooth Handz can run 700x32mm tires with the fenders or 700x35mm without.

The dropouts can be adjusted a full 16mm making the chainstay adjustable from 415mm to 426mm. The frame has internal brake routing, 142 rear spacing, a T47 Bottom Bracket, 44mm headtube, and a Columbus carbon fork.

The Smooth Handz frame features Columbus Life tubing. Ryan says that he prefers to hand-pick the tube set based on the individual customer and their desired ride quality preference.

All of the Handz Bicycles that Ryan builds are custom and made-to-order in New Hampshire.
