Energy storage device maker Skeleton Technologies has signed a €11.6-million ($12.2 million) contract with equipment distributor Class8 Energy to supply it with supercapacitor modules.

“Since the beginning of the electrification of commercial vehicles, our efforts have turned to obtaining a better energy solution for the heavy-duty and off-road machinery diesel market,” says Class8 Energy CEO Jean Labrie. “Our research led us to collaborate with Skeleton, whose supercapacitors totally go beyond our expectations. The demand is already important and promising: we have signed our first agreement with UAP’s Heavy Vehicle Parts Division and Skeleton’s SkelStart is already being requested by some of the world’s largest truck manufacturers.”

UAP’s Heavy Vehicle Parts Division is a heavy vehicle parts distribution company that operates parts stores, distribution centers and repair facilities in Canada.

Skeleton Technologies’s SkelStart is a module for starting big diesel engines that relies on the company’s SkelCap ultracapacitors.

Skeleton Technologies says “Skeleton’s modules also deliver 2x faster cold-cranking time and much higher cranking power than a battery. Last but not least, supercapacitors improve the sustainability performance of trucks as they don’t contain harmful chemicals or toxic metals and don’t require any maintenance.”
