There’s been good news and bad news for Rivian this week.

PV Magazine reported that the automaker has installed a solar canopy with a capacity of 783 kW at its factory in Normal, Illinois. The facility, which was developed by ForeFront Power, is used to charge Rivian electric trucks as they come off the production line, and it can charge 72 vehicles at a time. The company also plans to install a 2.8 MW wind turbine.

“Rivian’s Solar Charging Yard project is a testament to the company’s climate and sustainability leadership, showing US customers what a clean energy future looks like within the auto industry,” Michael Smith, CEO of ForeFront Power, told PV Magazine.

The bad news is that Rivian recalled 13,000 vehicles, nearly all that it has sold since production began late last year. According to the company, “an insufficiently torqued fastener” can cause noise, vibration and harshness from the front suspension, or “in rare instances,” can interfere with steering.

Rivian says the issue affects only one percent of the vehicles, and the steering problems will occur in a much smaller number. The company has received seven reports that might be related to the safety issue, but no injuries have been reported.

Rivian has promised to make the necessary repairs for free within 30 days.

“We will begin immediately contacting affected customers to schedule appointments for inspections and repairs if needed,” a spokesperson told the New York Times.
