Charged EVs | RADPack Millie uses AI to enhance the security of charging stations

Artificial Intelligence Technology Solutions (AITX) provides a range of artificial intelligence- and robotics-based solutions, mostly for customers in security-related industries. Now an AITX subsidiary, the Robotic Assistance Devices Group (RAD-G) has announced plans to break into the EV infrastructure segment.

What does automated security have to do with charging stations? Potentially, plenty. Charging up on the road sometimes involves waiting around at an isolated location in the middle of the night, and many drivers have reported concerns about safety. Vandalism, and theft of valuable copper, are also issues in some locations.

RAD-G’s initial product offering is RADPack Millie, a field-programmable gate array. “RAD devices have the ability to autonomously detect and respond to instances of trespassing, loitering, the presence of firearms and more utilizing its advanced human, vehicle and other situational detections,” says the company.

“Our plan is to offer EV charging station manufacturers a low-cost, add-on component to their existing charging stations,” said Steve Reinharz, CEO of AITX. “RADPack Millie, when integrated into a charging station, will support up to four cameras, lights, speakers and more. This will greatly expand the value of any charging station, providing much needed security and safety features to an often-vulnerable situation.”

Pricing for RAD-G’s RADPack Millie has not been announced.
