Suplests’ new shoes for 2023 launched recently, but the new Edge+ 2.0 Pro Fabian Cancellara Limited Edition launches today with a few upgrades, plus news that Blacksmith Cycle is bringing the line into North America, making it available consumer direct with limited dealers also picking up the line.
The Fabian Cancellara Limited Edition is limited to 250 pairs and upgrades to an anodized aluminum BOA Fit System, a bit fancier than the standard BOA dials on the rest of the line. It’s launch coincides with the Strade Bianche in Tuscany, a 176km ride over unpaved crushed white gravel roads race Fabian has won three times.
Otherwise identical to the Edge+ 2.0 Pro, it’s their top model with dual BOA dials, a thin microfiber upper with breathable 3D mesh forefoot and stiff carbon sole. MSRP is $429, claimed weight is 272g with Solestar insole.
Below that is the 30/8 Road Pro, which gets a single BOA dial with a lightweight, breathable woven upper designed for hotter summer days. It’s supported with a thin, Kevlar-enhanced microfiber grid underneath. Fabric guides along the upper reduce pressure points from the BOA wire by sending forces across the foot rather than digging into it. MSRP is $419, claimed weight is 239g (size 42) with included Solestar Lite insole.
Below that are the standard Road Pro and Sport (shown above) models, all available thru Blacksmith Cycle.
2023 Suplest mountain bike shoes
The mountain bike lineup leads out with the Edge+ Mountain Pro ($429, 364g), which also has the double BOA wiring over a thin, flexible carbon sheet to evenly spread pressure across the top of your foot. And it gets the full carbon sole and seamless Clarion microfiber upper. The heel cup has silicone dots over the mesh to prevent heel slip, which sits inside their molded heel counter to further secure your foot during hard efforts.
The Edge+ Mountain Performance is similar, but drops to $289 (364g) by dropping a BOA dial, standard microfiber, and using a slightly less stiff carbon for the sole. Both it and the Pro use a foam core inside the carbon sole to give it shape to stiffen it without adding weight, it’s just the level of carbon that differs. And both use a SUP rubber outsole for maximum grip and are billed as “XC/Gravel” shoes.
The only two not carried by Blacksmith are the Flat Pedal Pro (above) and Sport (below). Both get a bubbled SUP rubber outsole for grip on flat pedals, but the Pro uses a BOA dial with wrap over the top of the foot. And it has a higher inner stuff to protect your ankle from bashing into your crankarm when things get wild. A lightweight upper material supposedly doesn’t like water and won’t easily soak through.
The sport has standard cuffs, but a tall and well padded heel counter. it uses laces with a very slick stretch lace garage to tuck them into.
