Charged EVs | Switch Mobility to supply 12 Metrocity electric buses to London’s Tower Transit

Switch Mobility, a manufacturer of electric buses and light commercial vehicles, will supply a fleet of 12 Metrocity E-Buses to London’s Tower Transit. The fleet of Metrocitys will be deployed on Route 339, operating out of Lea Interchange and running between Shadwell and Leytonstone.

Switch Mobility was formed from the EV elements of commercial vehicle OEM Ashok Leyland and UK bus manufacturer Optare. In 2014, the company introduced the first of its British-built electric buses to London, and has since put some 300 EVs on the road. Switch has facilities in Leeds, England and Chennai, India, and currently sells its vehicles in over 46 countries.

Switch’s Metrocity electric bus sports a 250 kWh NMC battery and a lightweight monocoque platform. It delivers a range of up to 180 miles and a charging time under three hours. Tower Transit will be the first customer for the updated 9.4-meter Metrocity. Delivery of the vehicles is expected to commence in Q1 2023.
