2023 Trek Domane+ AL e-road bike comes in alloy, too – Still lightweight, far more affordable

The attention always goes to the fancy bikes, but modern aluminum bikes shine pretty bright. Just like their analog counterparts, the new Domane+ e-bikes’ alloy model gets a high end, shapely frame. And it tips the scales as low as 13.6kg (~30lbs) for the smallest size.

It gets a different motor and drive system than the higher end full carbon Domane+ SLR e-road bike, but still works with a range extender battery pack and clears almost-as-big 700×38 tires.

The Domane+ AL uses a HyDrive 250W rear hub motor with 40Nm torque powered by a 250Wh battery integrated in the downtube. Claimed range is 55 miles (88km) in Eco mode.

Add the optional Range Extender battery pack and you’ll double the range to 110 miles (177km). On all but the smallest frame size, ti mounts to the seat tube. On 49cm frame, it uses the downtube’s water bottle bosses.

The bike has a torque and cadence sensing bottom bracket that detects the rider’s input and provides motor support in proportion to the input. This contrasts with many other hub motor systems which just use cadence input to trigger the maximum power for whatever mode it’s in. Trek says this provides a more natural ride feel than other e-bikes that just use cadence sensing.

The frame uses Trek’s Alpha 100 aluminum with a carbon fork. It shares the standard Domane’s Endurance geometry for a more comfortable position on longer rides while still feeling sporty.
