Turn-by-turn navigation is getting more and more accessible for cyclists. Sigma recently updated its ROX 2.0, ROX 4.0, and ROX 11.1 EVO cycling computers with a slew of new features sure to please the race-focused and commuter alike.

The update includes turn-by-turn directions, a new Search and Go function, and seamless interaction with the Sigma Ride app. More impressive, the update adds this function to the ROX 2.0 computer, giving turn-by-turn directions its $80 head unit — very impressive.
What is Search and Go?
Riders can access the Search and Go feature via the Sigma Ride App. The update helps riders to find any location and navigate there quickly. Riders achieve this by entering a specific address in the Sigma Ride app or clicking on a point on the map (via the Sigma Ride App) to set a destination. Riders can choose between four different route profiles. The then-generated route can either be started on the ROX directly or saved in the app for later use.
Plan routes and ride them when offline
The ROX 2.0 and ROX 4.0 now feature track navigation. This feature was first introduced on the ROX 11.1 head unit, making it possible to ride a previously laid-out route with turn-by-turn guidance.
Riders can create their ride in the Sigma Data Center or via a third-party app like Strava, Map My Ride, etc., and import it into the Sigma Ride app. The ride downloads to the corresponding head unit, and the rider can roll without getting lost. On more substantial head units like the ROX 11.1 EVO, riders can save up to 36 routes and ride them offline.
Navigation with Sigma’s in-house turn-by-turn directions
Like many similar cycling computers, when a rider starts navigation via the new Sigma in-house turn-by-turn navigation, a new nav-specific page is automatically added to the ROX display.
The ROX 4.0 and ROX 11.1 EVO will also show a preview of the altitude profile on another training page. For routes planned in the Sigma Data Center, with Search and Go, large turn-by-turn arrows and a beep let the rider know when to turn while en route.
ROX 4.0 and ROX 11.1 EVO will display the street names and any auxiliary information downloaded with the ride file from the app.
On the ROX 11.1 EVO display, the turn-by-turn instructions appear as a pop-up message or can be set as a metric on any training page, making it easy to follow directions and your power numbers.
What if I get off track?
If a rider gets lost or takes a wrong turn, the ROX computer (all models) gives a small beep and on-screen notes to guide you back to the route. The navigation screen also features a zoom feature, so riders can see precisely how off-track they are or how much ground they’ve covered.
How to get the free firmware update for the ROX?
The new functions are available immediately via a free firmware update for the ROX models 2.0 and 4.0 and an update of the Sigma Ride app. The firmware update for the ROX 11.1 EVO will follow in late Fall 2022.
