SK Signet to build EV fast charger manufacturing facility in Plano, Texas

EV charging station manufacturer SK Signet, a subsidiary of South Korean conglomerate the SK Group, has announced plans to build a new EV charger manufacturing facility in Plano, Texas.

At the new plant, SK Signet will produce a range of fast-charging solutions, including UL-certified chargers and power cabinets offering power levels up to 350 kW. The facility, SK Signet’s first in the US, will cover 136,200 square feet, and is expected to be operating at full capacity of 10,000 fast chargers per year by July 2023. The company plans to create up to 183 jobs at the site by 2026.

Also at the new facility, SK Signet will produce its proprietary power module, which is designed to allow customers to customize the size and power of their chargers. This enables advanced charging technologies such as active power sharing, that can deliver more efficient charging.

“For the transition from traditional combustion engines to battery-powered vehicles to be successful, access to reliable and efficient EV charging is a necessity,” said SK Signet CEO Jung Ho Shin. “Our new Texas facility will provide top-tier fast charging solutions that are adaptable to a wide range of vehicle types.”

“We are grateful to the partnerships with federal, state and local officials, particularly those representing the City of Plano, Texas, who have supported and guided our expansion into the US market,” said Seung-June Oh, President, SK Signet America.
