Qualcomm and Renault to co-develop architecture for software-defined EVs

Renault and Qualcomm Technologies plan to collaborate on plans for a centralized computer architecture for Renault’s next generation of software-defined vehicles (SDVs), based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis. The architecture will support digital cockpit, connectivity and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Qualcomm will also invest in Ampere, Renault’s dedicated electric and software company.

Starting in 2026, Renault vehicles will use the SDV platform, including new generations of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis, which Qualcomm says is designed to power new Android cockpits and make the onboard experience more immersive and personal. The SDV platform will centralize other vehicle functions, such as the ADAS, body, chassis, telematics, connectivity, power line communications, safety and cybersecurity in the PCU.

The SDV architecture will be made available to other vehicle manufacturers as well.

“The software-defined vehicle is the future of the automotive industry,” said Renault CEO Luca de Meo. “Renault Group is strengthening its strategic collaboration with Qualcomm to bring the first open and horizontal SDV platform to the automotive market.”
