The Nissan LEAF is the elder statesman of the EV world—it’s not the most glamorous car you can buy, but it’s an affordable workhorse that has benefited from 12 years of incremental improvement.

Now Nissan has released some details of the refreshed 2023 LEAF, ahead of its official debut at the 2022 New York International Auto Show. The new LEAF, which is expected to go on sale this summer, will come in just two trim levels: S and SV Plus.

The 2023 LEAF S is equipped with a 40 kWh battery pack and a 110 kW electric motor that produces 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The SV PLUS has a 60 kWh pack and a 160 kW motor that cranks out 214 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Ranges are expected to be similar to those of the 2022 models.

The higher SV PLUS trim includes Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist4, a hands-on driver assist system that features Intelligent Cruise Control and steering assist technologies, as well as a stop-and-hold function that can bring the vehicle to a full stop in a traffic jam, then bring it back up to speed when traffic starts moving again.

Nissan lowered its prices with the launch of the 2022 LEAF (unlike some more high-flying brands—cough, cough—Tesla), and now says 2023 pricing for both variants will remain comparable to 2022 pricing. Nissan EVs are still eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
