Italian transit operator ATM Milano has placed a third order for electric buses with Polish firm Solaris, under an existing framework agreement for 250 vehicles. Two batches of electric Urbino buses, 140 in total, have already been delivered. Now ATM has ordered 75 more Urbino 12 buses, and they’re scheduled to hit the streets of Milan in the second half of 2022.

ATM Milano plans to phase out diesel buses by the end of 2030.

The 12-meter buses will feature Solaris High Energy battery packs, each with a total nominal capacity of nearly 400 kWh, and will be charged by means of an inverted pantograph. The drive unit of the buses will consist of an electric axle with two integrated traction motors.

The Urbino 12 can accommodate 75 passengers, and includes features for riders with disabilities (wheelchair bays) as well as tech features (USB charging ports, passenger information systems, video surveillance). The Mobileye Shield+ system uses sound and visual alerts to warn the driver about objects detected in the vehicle’s blind spot.

“The opportunity to supply ATM Milano, which is a particularly demanding client, with our state-of-the-art electric buses, makes us extremely proud and gives us immense satisfaction,” said Alberto Fiore, Managing Director of Solaris Italia.
