First York, the operator of local bus services in the historic cathedral city of York, England, has gained planning approval to install charging infrastructure as it prepares for the arrival of 44 electric buses next year.
The agency will install charging units, along with the necessary transformer and switchgear, at its James Street depot. The infrastructure will “facilitate First Bus providing up to 88 new electric buses to be used within the local area.” The new e-buses will replace existing diesel buses.
First York spent £10.2 million on the buses. Some £8.4 million of that came from a zero-emission bus grant from the UK government.
