News out of Portland, Oregon today: it seems that Breadwinner Cycles co-founder, Ira Ryan, has concluded his 10-year partnership with the brand. He’s decided to re-launch his storied brand Ira Ryan Cycles. This new venture will be concentrated on building a select number of fully custom steel bicycle frames with a focus on customer interactions.
Ira Ryan started building custom bicycles back in 2005 with the goal of blending modern details and components with the timeless look and construction of traditional bike design. The end results are bicycles with “classic styling, slender lines, and a sense of utility”.
Ryan has nearly 20 years of experience in fabricating bicycles, building his first frame for Vanilla Bicycles/Speedvagen back in 2005. A cyclist and competitor himself with multiple ultra-endurance road and gravel events under his belt, Ira says he has the “ability to understand a rider’s desires and background to help shape the final product“. He continues, “Every detail of the frame should compliment the customer’s unique riding style and position on the bike. Building in the appropriate amount of utility while maintaining an elegant and sleek design is what I am known for, and look forward to reconnecting with my passion for creating dream bikes”.
The order books are open for 2023, and Ira Ryan Cycles is accepting orders for full custom bicycles of all disciplines. Keep in mind that Ryan is a well-known, and respected frame builder, these build queue slots will go quickly. To make sure that each customer gets the attention they need, Ira says that the number of bikes built per year will be limited.
As mentioned earlier, the build cycle of a custom bicycle revolves around rider interactions, something that Ira revels in when doing custom fabrication and will be the key focus at Ira Ryan Cycles.
Ryan will be focusing on building all-steel bicycles in the road, gravel, adventure, randonee, and city with an emphasis on timeless styling and functional details.
Each bike will be fully custom from the beginning to the end, accounting for every detail and component.
